Learning and Living Truth

Read Titus 2:11–15

It [the grace of God] teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age (Titus 2:12).

Titus, the apostle Paul’s protégé, did not just learn about the truth. He lived it. Paul cared for him and wrote the epistle to encourage completion of ministry work that had begun.

Paul and Titus had known risks, conflict, and seasons of uncertainty. Together, they brought truth to the island of Crete. Paul mentored Titus and trusted him to guide churches in seasons of conflict. Doctrine of the Early Church was proven by their behavior, not just the beliefs they confessed.

Things are the same in the modern world. Learning and living the truth brings love instead of hate, peace instead of bitterness, forgiveness instead of resentment. Titus was challenged to guide his followers toward godliness. Today’s followers of Christ can learn from that advice and bring joyful change to this world.

Prayer Suggestion: Dear Father, lead me in the paths of righteousness and help me to say “no” to anything which would lead me away from those paths.
